Interesting! "I just finished a really neat book called Dreaming in Chinese by Deborah Fallows. It’s written by a woman who lived in China for 3 years and immersed herself in the language. I thought it would be a neat read since the kids and I are going to try and learn Mandarin Chinese this year. I learned quite a bit about the Chinese culture while reading this book–it’s fascinating. However, I’m a little intimidated by the language now."

Japanese adopts a lot of Chinese characters, so, some Japanese know the
advantages of the Chinese language. A learned Japanese states that Chinese
language is very systematic and logic. He looks at Mandarin from a different
angle.

Some people say the sound of Mandarin is poetic.

I'd say the writing of Chinese characters could be very beautiful.

***************
Actually, learning Mandarin can be easy, fun and joyful!

Emily. Maybe your therapist needs to look at your feet. Cutie's feet sound like yours and you walked fine. You just tripped a lot. She will walk when she decides she is good and ready and not until then.

We actually really enjoyed doing school this way. I do plan to come back to it, but for now, I'm just too burnt out from doing it myself + having a high needs baby. We'll do Sonlight next year, but I don't know if we'll stick with them long term or not. Probably not. I have a feeling once baby is a bit older and things calm down a bit, I'll be itching to do my own thing again.

I would say if you are going monthly unit studies, be at least a month ahead of yourself, so you don't get caught the weekend before the new month trying to plan the whole thing--ask me how I know. And definitely ask your children what they'd like to study. And be flexible--we ended up switching Middle Ages to Revolutionary War, and then it ended up taking us a little over 2 months to finish. We're taking the rest of this month off for testing, First Communion, family visiting, baseball, etc. and then we're going to do Oceans/Tide Pools in June.

We LOVE Math U See. I tried several different programs when we started homeschooling, but we've stuck with MUS for 4 years now, and I don't plan on switching to anything else ever. We like having a math teacher--the kids really like Mr. Demme.

Hi Emily! I read this back when you wrote it, and just wanted to check back in and see if this plan worked for you?

We've recently started doing more unit-study kind of stuff (probably more like a main lesson than a unit study, but whatever), and I think we'll probably continue into next year. I like how, in this plan, you rotate between history, geography, and science. Did it work well for you? Any tips for me?
